Lauren, are the Egyptians the ones that would don the gold rings around their necks and layer them one by one to elongate their necks...or am I thinking of different culture?

There are several cultures that do this, but the Egyptians weren't not one of them. To me knowledge they were not. You can see these on women from Burma, in the Kayan tribe.
