Wings Castle in Millbrook New York

I had to share this with all of you. One of my fellow writers sent me this video about Pete Wing who decided to build a Medieval Castle without any formal training in architecture, just a love for antiques and pure motivation.

At the age of twenty-one Peter Wing returned from Vietnam and started building a home for himself and his family using recycled materials. For thirty years he and his wife have been proud owners of a medieval castle visited by hundreds of tourists every year.

Results of the Poll: Which Time Periods In History Interest You the Most?

The results are in on your choices for the most interesting time periods in history. I was quite surprised actually, as I'm sure many of you were as well, that Classical History and Pre-History were tied at 7 votes. My favorite, coming in at 6 votes, was Medieval History. Alas, the lesser talked about periods of history were American, Asia Pacific, and African.

This post tells me so much about all of you. I feel like the Ancient Digger is on the right track as far as subjects and posts. However, I'd like to pose a question once again about what aspects of Classical and Pre-History interest you. What topics would you like to see investigated further?

The Kings of Persia

The Persian Empire was tolerant, as well as efficient. They allowed the peoples to practice their own religions, customs, and methods of living life. There were many years of peace during the Persian Empire which facilitated trade and encouraged the well being of its people.

Many eastern people owe gratitude for being subjects of the Great Kings of Persia, including Cyrus the Great, Cambyses II, and Darius who governed and expanded the empire.

The War of the Magicians: The Story of Abbé Boullan

This is part one of the chilling tale by Patrick Bernauw of one 19th century French Satanic Priest Abbé Boullan, who was quoted as saying his purpose was "to offer to God a satisfaction or reparation – by special prayers and the physical or moral sufferings Christians accepted and even sought – in order to restore the balance that was distorted by the offenses against the divine majesty, committed by sinners who were not repentant”.

After brilliant studies at the seminar of Montauban, Joseph-Antoine Boullan (°1824) was ordained priest in 1848 and appointed to the parish of Saint John in Montauban. Two years later he went to Rome where he obtained his doctorate in theology. He joined the Missionairies of the Precious Blood and took part in several missions to Italy, before settling down as superior of the congregation in Trois-Epis, near Turckheim in Alsace. He published a translation of the Divine Life of the Blessed Virgin of the famous visionary Catherine Emmerich and he came in 1854 to Paris where he collaborated on several religious journals. The Jelling Stones

I previously posted this piece on the Jelling Stones in Denmark with a partner site and I wanted to share a short blurb and the link to the entire piece. What I find immensely interesting about this site is that it seems that the reasoning behind them was not completely innocent so to speak. I think they were rather a depiction of glory over a religious battle than a monument to family. What's your interpretation of this site?

There are several different types of monuments or statues that represent a passing of an affluent person, or rather a stone that marks the actual burial site.The Jelling Stones were a bit different and represented a completely new transition because they represent Pagan Nordic culture and they mark the shift from Nordic beliefs to Christianity.
